COVERAGE AND ARRANGEMENT:The first section of this reference work provides background information on the basic characteristics of mines and booby traps; the origins of land mines; generic types of mines and booby trap; the structure of a demining organisation; clearance procedures; and mine countermeasures. Section 2 provides details of mines and booby traps currently deployed, listed under country of manufacture. Each entry includes a photo and cross-section diagram where available; description; details of operation, neutralisation and disarming; technical specification; and general information including countries where deployed, emplacement, detectability, anti-handling, and blast resistance. Section 3 covers new generations of high technology mine which have not generally been used because of their prohibitive cost. Section 4 is a directory of the commercially available products and services which relate to mines. In particular, Minelaying equipment; Mine detection equipment; Mineclearing equipment; and associated equipment and services. Section 5 consists of maps and tables. The maps depict countries most threatened by mines; current and former producers of mines; and Nations supporting a global ban on anti-personnel mines. The Tables provide detail on nations supporting the Ottawa Convention and their current status in its implementation; types of mine most likely to be found in the worst affected countries; and a table of mine technical data arranged under country of manufacture. International standards for humanitarian mine clearance operations are also included. Indexes provide access to entries by country of manufacture, product name and by manufacturer's name.
