ARRANGEMENT and COVERAGE The emphasis is on amphibious special forces with less detail on other arms e.g. airborne special forces. Entries are alphabetic by country name. Each entry has some or all of the following: country overview; special forces by branch (government, maritime, land, air, coastal defence); sea lift capability; maritime air support; armour, artillery, support and infantry weapons; military vehicle and logistics; points of contact. Glossary, bibliography. Readers are reminded that special forces are by nature clandestine so open-source information may be very limited. The executive summary discusses the role of amphibious forces, the pros and cons of expeditionary warfare, use for ops other than war, maritime asymmetric threats, a short discussion of sea-basing, and recent developments concerning swimmers.
