Compares and contrasts the three main attempts to invade and or control Afghanistan over the last 150 years. The British and Soviet invasions are considered complete failures while the American led coalition is deemed in some circles to be a partial success. However all have tried to shape the country to their own particular geopolitical ends, whereas according to this book no matter how much resources are made available stabilisation will not be achieved if it is attempted with violence and occupation.
