In September 1970 the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) hijacked several airliners landing then blowing them up at Dawson's Field in the Jordanian desert. The author, who was a seventeen year old schoolboy and a passenger on one of the planes at the time, gives a chronological account of events drawing on his own and others recollections as well as on archive sources. The latter indicate the USSR was instrumental in Syria's invasion of Jordan which ultimately set off the hijackings.
