A journalist's account of the early history and subsequent rise of Halliburton, a company which for many years included among it's subsidiaries Kellogg, Brown & Root. Under American Secretary for Defense Donald Rumsfeld the U.S. military, as part of a drive for greater efficiency, was encouraged to outsource many support functions. Halliburton came to public prominence as one of the largest private contractors - it provided massive logistical support to American forces in Iraq and was involved in many other projects around the world. The company was also embroiled in allegations of waste, fraud and bribery although these have been countered by pointing to the sheer scale of the task in Iraq and the speed with which it had to be done.
