Advances in electromagnetic/directed energy weapon systems / David Alexander

By: Material type: TextTextPublication details: 2008Subject(s): In: Military Technology Vol 32 Issue 9, 2008, pp.46-57Summary: Electromagnetic and directed energy weapons include rail guns, lasers, and radio frequency devices. Rail guns could fire projectiles at very high velocity (MACH 7+) over considerable distances with minimal risk of jamming. Lasers range from airborne size weapons to tiny anti-personnel items little bigger than a pocket torch. RF systems are said to have non-lethal anti-personnel as well as anti-materiel capabilities. This article explains the various technologies and argues that these kinds of weapons may lead to another miltiary technology revolution.
