Summary, etc. The economic rise of China and India are expected to coincide with the decline of fossil fuels. Total world oil production is expected to peak between 2012 and 2015, meanwhile to alleviate global warming very large reductions must be made in the use of all fossil fuels. This paper looks at possible alternative sources of energy, and at the negative impact of the global energy crisis including possible failure of Indian and Chinese development plans, and global environmental catastrophes. An appendix gives projected world energy supply from 2004 to 2050.
