Summary, etc. Climate change is likely to produce more severe weather events especially in low lying coastal areas. The world's population is growing and often located in these same vulnerable areas. Mass migrations can result from storms, flooding, war, famine, and economic pressures. This article looks at what armed forces may be called on to do during such events, noting that responses may range from humanitarian assistance to defence enforcement with very different outcomes for the migrants.
