Summary, etc. Developed from a conference "The proof of the pudding" held in Oxford March 2003 (with some later additions) the purpose of this book is to show how and to what extent the British army successfully learnt lessons from previous conflicts, especially the two world wars, in dealing with new (smaller) ones during the twentieth century. Ranges from the Boer War at the turn of the century to the Gulf War of 1990-1991. Includes jungle warfare in Burma and the Malayan Emergency, the Falklands Conflict, and the long running involvement in Northern Ireland.
