Summary, etc. | At the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks the US was undergoing a military transformation involving missile defense, space assets, precision weaponry and information technology. However this transformation proved irrelevant in the face of threats posed by nontraditional adversaries employing complex irregular warfare. Current US strategy is more balanced between conventional major war and asymmetric threats but the author wonders how long it will be before the emphasis reverts to the traditional Pentagon view. |
