Summary, etc. Developments within the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy-Marine forces are doing much to insure the future force desired by South Korea. With its primary mission of war deterrence in peacetime, tje ROK Navy Marines and Coast Guard are continually expanding the scope of operations in the Northeast Asian region. During the last half-decade, extensive progress has been made toward a future regional naval force advocated in 2002, to be based on the newest technologies and an expanded input from indigenious shipbuilding and suppliers. This article provides an overview of the South Korea's naval force and its future.
