Summary, etc. The disclosure of the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities revealed that virtually all computers connected to the internet had been extremely vulnerable to exploitation, particularly by nation-state actors. The growing complexity of computer processors means that it is highly likely that there are further microarchitectural side-channels that have yet to be discovered or publicly disclosed, and which could be exploited by threat actors. This article examines these vulnerabilities and assesses the likelihood of similar weaknesses being discovered in the future.
