Summary, etc. In the period after the fall of Suharto the political influence of the Indonesian military (TNI) was extensively reformed and dwifungsi was officially terminated in 2000; however these changes were resented by many military personnel. The risk of distintegration or balkanisation and the designation of Indonesia as a fragile state were issues the TNI used to reassert political and economic influence, and to constrain or even halt efforts aimed at reforming the country's security sector.
