A Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) system has been selected based on the Northrop Grumman Global Hawk UAV. This article and accompanying cutaway drawing explain technical aspects of the aircraft as well as briefly commenting on implications for the way the USN operates air surveillance.
