China's war on terrorism : counter-insurgency, politics, and internal security / Martin I Wayne - London ; New York : Routledge, 2008 - xii, 196 p.

Study based on first hand experience and research of China's approach to controlling the insurgency in Xinjiang. In response to unrest in the name of ethnic separatism and jihadism China acted quickly and forcefully, even brutally. Subsequently China eased back on the use of force but stepped up other means of control such as reshaping local society. As a result the counter-insurgency campaign, according to this book, has been very successful and merits further study to see what lessons can be drawn from it, and what the USA and others might learn from China's policies in Xinjiang.
