Flashpoints in the war on terrorism / edited by Derek S Reveron and Jeffrey Stevenson Murer - London : Routledge, 2006 - xi, 357 p. maps

There is a widely publicised and perhaps widely held assumption that such a thing as global jihad actually exists and that it is generating acts of terrorism around the world. Accordingly American policy makers have responded with the global war on terror. This book argues that such assumptions, and therefore the responses are wrong. The threat according to General Tony Zinni comes from instability not religiously inspired extremists. The book comprises cases studies of various parts of the world where unrest has recently occurred and shows that with one exception none have a direct link between terrorism and political Islam. Cases include Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Xinjiang.
