Observing the 2007 Papua New Guinea elections/ Marcus Pelto - 2007
Papua New Guinea held its seventh national elections in July and August 2007. Despite the potential complication arising from the introduction of a new voting system i.e. limited preferential voting, the elections were seen to have ran better than most expected, with less violence and better coordination compared to the 2002 elections. This article looks at the Papua New Guinea elections happening in one of the provinces - the Eastern Highlands, as observed by the author, produced a broadly democratic result.
