In this article a closer examination of leadership theory and organizational culture has been drawn with the view that effective leaders are those that fully recognize and understand the context of the organization and the type of organizational culture which is operating. The powerful combination of leadership values and context (culture) need s to be bound together through effective communication, measurement systems and reward criteria, which are reflective of the culture and in keeping with the leadership style.
