First there is no status quo on the issue of China and Taiwan; second the concept was a convenient political fudge; third each of the main parties (China, Taiwan, and the USA) has a different opinion on what status quo means; and fourth by doing nothing the USA and the international community are effectively enabling China to continue to orchestrate economic, military, and political policies that will eventually lead to the demise of Taiwan as a separate entity.
