Rethinking the United States Myanmar policy - 2005

This article presents an overview of military government in Myanmar followed by a brief survey of global responses. It assesses the Myanmar case, and the argument is that current U S policy is too crude, blunt and one dimensional. Washington should adopt a more nuanced carrot -and-stick approach aimed at strengthening constructive engagement efforts led by Myanmar's neighbours in East and Southeast Asia
