The ruling coalition in Malaysia received an overwhelming mandate to rule in the general elections held in 2004. Abdullah Badawi Prime Minister had proven himself in the fight against corruption, insistence on public accountability and shift from corporate mega-projects to emphasis on agro-base, rural-projects as well as his moderate Islam stance and inclusive multiracial approach.
