The people's army in Vietnam (PAVN) is the formal name given to all elements of Vietnam's armed forces. Force is organised geographically and comprises infantry formations with limited mobility. The regional force is deployed at the provincial level and has units headquartered in each provincial capital. Backing up the regular and paramilitary force is a reserve abaout 500,000 personnel designated as the tactical rear force.
