Provides a chronology of the evolution and growth of states during the last century. Described as an atlas but in reality this is a textbook with extensive map illustrations. Each chapter covers about a decade and includes detailed maps showing changes. An appendix lists states which have appeared and disappeared during the twentieth century. There is a detailed bibliography, and indices of states, places, and subjects. Although the title indicates coverage up to 2000 the book appears to have gone to press in 1998.
