A better war: the unexamined victories and the final tragedy of America's last years in Vietnam - New York: Harcourt Brace, 1999 - 507p.

Using primary materials including tape recordings of allied councils of war, this book focusses on the development of American involvement in the vietnam war following the replacement of General Westmoreland with General Creighton Abrams in 1968. This proved a turning point for the South and by 1972 when Abrams left Vietnam the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese armed forces had effectively been neutralised. The book looks in detail at this often ignored period of the war, the achievements following the Tet offensive, and how a positive situation slid into ultimate defeat.
