Arranged in 22 Sections; Events - historical and contemporary; Prominant people; Background to world affairs; Political compendium; The world of Music; The world of Science; Background to Economic events; Money matters (personal finance); Myths and legends; Ideas and beliefs; Gazetteer of the World; General information; Literary companion; Medical matters; Sporting companion; Biblical glossary; Dictionary of Computing; The Cinema; The World of Wine ; General Compendium - a collection of useful tables and data on a variety of unrelated subjects, for example, tables of English monarchs, British Prime Ministers, US Presidents, foreign phrases, the Commonwealth; Atlas of the World (36 plates). Some Sections e.g. Political compendium, are limited to coverage of the UK only. ARRANGEMENT:Each Section outlined above is assigned a letter. Within each section entries are arranged alphabetically or, in the case of Events for example, chronologically. Some sections also have a table of contents. The sections on Medical Matters and the World of Music also have their own index and glossary. The common subject index refers to selective entries by Section, page and column numbers, but does not comprehensively index all subjects.
