This article discusses the translocal analysis of the genesis and subsequent trajectories of armed groups in the Syrian war. Adopting the concept of translocality, the article argues the useful in understanding how not only international and regional governments shape the war, but rather how armed groups are intertwined with surrounding communities at the local level and across localities.
