This study explores the relationships between how tacticians act and the mechanisms used, resulting in either success or defeat in relation to theories about combat in land warfare. Current research emphasizes in particular the following elements: deployment, reconnaissance, manoeuvre, breakthrough, tempo, surprise, exploitation, and enemy organizational breakdown, as important aspects of how tactical victory can be achieved.
