Portable small arms have been around for well over three centuries, yet they remain the focus of the modern military. While several new weapons have been introduced, or are about to be introduced, they still do the same thing using a powerful yet contained explosion to hurl a kinetic energy round down range at a given target. Changes as always have been incremental, continuing the evolution of small arms to create lighter weapons with the same or greater potential.
