Argues that radicalism is a political response to the deepening economic, social, political, and cultural crisis in much of the Muslim world and especially the greater Middle East. These problems are identified as rapid population growth, educational changes, failures of government policy, and rapid urbanization which have caused unemployment and increasing poverty. Consequently large sectors of Muslim youth have become alienated and are likely to be sympathetic to extremist solutions. This report includes recommendations for the US government.
