A good single volume history of the Second World War in Burma, illustrated with maps and photographs. The book starts with a short account of British involvement in Burma, and events in China and Japan prior to the war, before moving into the military history. The main part of the book describes the campaign and the people who played their parts in it. The war against the Japanese, fought by Britain and its allies with troops from many parts of the world but especially from India, was ultimately won against fearful odds, only for Burma to achieve independence three years later. Concludes with a brief summary of events in Burma since then. Extensive notes (pp.435-543), bibliography (pp.544-588) and a good index.
