Counterinsurgency and stabilization operations involve many agencies working alongside the US military. While this is formally recognised for example in COIN field manuals, the reality is not satisafactory. The article argues that company grade officers need improved understanding of stability operations and that this should be included in their initial and on-going training with input from the agencies themselves and from academics.
