Film record of Shackleton's attempt to cross Antarctica in 1914-1916. First shown in 1919, this was originally a silent movie. "This restored version of the film has been constructed by the National Film and Television Archive [UK] from a wide range of materials. The NFTVA has applied tinting and toning to match the original prints". Additional features: Film commentary; Shacketon's funeral; Map of the expedition with commentary; Southward on the quest - recently discovered footage of the Ross Sea party whose task was to establish a series of supply dumps for Shackleton's group who would not have been able to transport all the food and materials required for their expedition.
