The article divided into four sections. The first summarizes the naval peacekeeping debate through a brief literature review. Second section formulates a typology of UN naval operations, the third section examines how the intervention against piracy off the coast of Somalia, fourth discussions on the idea of peacekeeping at sea remain strongly concerned with identifying unconventianal threatsat sea and to justifying new roles for navies.
