This article highlights how the spread of weapons has had an adverse impact on large sections of the population in many developing countries, and has caused environmental and social degradation. It examines how the social and economic problems that are essentially rooted at the national level are inevitably having an impact at the international level. The solutions have to come from a concerted action at the global level and will be reinforced more and more in the years to come.
