The Royal Australian Navy: new era, enhanced capabilities - 2011

In contrast to only a decade ago, the modern Royal Australian Navy (RAN) is looking towards a brighter and more certain future than it could have previously. The RAN is improving its heavily deployed constabulary forces and is in the process of acquiring the capacity to project maritime power to an extent not previously envisaged. The RAN has paid greater attention towards enhacing its recruitment and retention and also attempting to uplift its institutional culture to avoid the regrettable failings that have brought negative publicity in recent years.
