The battle of Ap Bac, Vietnam: they did everything but learn from it - Westport, Conn. USA: Greenwood Press, 2001 - 185p.

Detailed analysis of the battle of Ap Bac that took place January 1963 when American's were in an advisory role in support of the ARVN. The book sets out to identify why the apparently superior ARVN lost the battle to the PLAF, and why it was subsequently presented as an ARVN victory. Suggests that contributory factors were the poor quality of ARVN officers and the fact that there were two chains of command (military and civil) as a result of which some officers wore two hats and occassionally faced conflicting orders.
