Myanmar's economy feels the crunch - 2009

Global economic pressures compunded by ongoing Western economic sanctions and the ligering effects of Cyclone Nargis in May 2008 are unlikely to lead to any anti-junta protests. More than two million Myanmar workers in Thailand and elsewhere in the region. The effect of sanctions and Cylone Nargis, the junta's hold on power will remain as strong as ever lowering the risk of any significant protests erupting in 2009.
