The U.S. Army is again recognising the importance of electronic warfare (for example in terrorists use IEDs) and is developing the necessary doctrine and staff capacity to engage in this form of warfare. A new field manual is expected early in 2009 (FM 3-36) that will build on the 2007 Joint Doctrine publication JP 3-13.1 Electronic Warfare.
