Between 1973 and 1974 an epic documentary series about the Second World War was shown on British television. A condition of the production was that all material collected whether used in the programmes or not be deposited at the Imperial War Museum in London. This book draws on the hundred of hours of interviews that were not included in the broadcasts. Arranged by themes and in broadly chronological order the chapters each have a short introduction followed by quotes by named interviewees among who are both famous and ordinary people.
